Many studies have confirmed that hitting children causes long-term physical and emotional damage, and can lead to suicidal thoughts & actions. Missouri recently legalized paddling in schools. 19 states still allow corporal punishment in schools. Unforgettable trauma caused by corporal punishment is reported by adults, scarred permanently by the hitting, humiliation, and degradation. Physical punishment teaches children that violence is how we solve problems, when the opposite message needs to be taught. Violence begets more violence. Research has already confirmed this, many times over. Children have the right to a childhood free from physical pain, despair, and demeaning practices. Schools need to rely on rational, up-to-date strategies to establish discipline, not archaic, barbaric methods. Corporal punishment has already been banned by the entire European Union (EU) and many other parts of the world.  The U.S. must act as a world leader, exemplifying humane treatment for ALL. Outlaw all forms of corporal punishment on a federal level. Tell the federal government to make corporal punishment in schools illegal NOW.
