As Will Leitch from MLB.com said, "Every Home Run Derby needs an unabashed fan favorite, and there is no more ideal nominee for this position than Mancini."

Trey Mancini has been through so much in the past year or so after being diagnosed with colon cancer in March of 2020. He has given back to the community so much throughout his career, from spending time with Mo Gaba in the past to recently encouraging others to participate in early cancer screening to improve survival rates. I sincerely believe that if the American League (AL) All-Star Game captain does not include Trey Mancini on his Home Run Derby team, then he will regret it quite a bit in the future. Power hitters come and go, but the power of Mancini’s story will last well beyond the careers of any current big leaguer. Whether you are an Orioles fan, baseball fan, or just a fellow human being, Trey's perseverance through his diagnosis and incredible performance this year should inspire you to never give up and hold on for those you love and to what you love. If the ethos argument doesn't convince you, here are some statistics that show why Trey Mancini is qualified to represent the AL in the HR Derby:

AL Ranks: 18th in HR (only 4 HR away from 4th place), 20th in Isolated Power (only 26% lower than 4th place)

Average HR distance: 404 ft

Barrel %: 83rd percentile

xSLG: 89th percentile
