Serendah is a cosy little town located about 27 km north of Kuala Lumpur. It sits below the lush green mountains of the main range and is gifted with many natural waterfalls. The seven wells built by the British administration long ago to mitigate flooding of the town is still functional till today and has become more of a tourist attraction. The lake Kiambang is another hot-spot for fishing enthusiasts who flock the area daily. This lake is beautiful and could be ideally transformed into a recreational park for residents not only in Serendah but also other neighbouring towns which also lack such facilities.
With all nice things said about Serendah, one horrible thing needs to mentioned. The existing quarry at Serendah which has been operational for tens of years. The dust pollution due to the blasting of rocks has been a health hazard to residents of nearby housing estates for too long. Now, Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd. is applying to expand their quarry project on the land of Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation.
We have put up with this terrible dust pollution an have condoned their activities this far. The quarry is surrounded with housing estates in Serendah, Antara Gapi and a beautiful golf course resort. How can the Majlis Hulu Selangor even think of approving this expansion. Instead, they should think of ways to stop the existing operations.
This is not the first act of irresponsibility by the Majlis Daerah Hulu Selangor. Back in 2014 they approved the conversion of lot PT 1392 from recreational land (18 hole golf course) to housing. Since then, the once buzzling golfer's paradise ceased operations and came to a stand still. Fortunately a group of owners of residences at the golf resort filed a law suit against the developers and the Majlis. The matter was settled out of court whereby the developers agreed to retain a 9 hole golf course and compensated the plaintiffs with some monetary compensation. The golf course reopened about 2 years ago but without it's past glory and fanfare.
We therefore appeal to the relevant authorities to look into this matter seriously and do the needful. We can't take this form of irresponsible action whereby humble citizens are exposed to such toxicity. Kindly support this petition. Tq.
