Follow Covid-19 Protocols in the OneMa1ze School District
The 2021-22 school year is quickly approaching. We are concerned about our children and the teachers/staff at our schools. We all want our children to have a “normal” school year, but this is not a “normal” year. It is a pandemic year. The Coronavirus is here.
The Kansas Department of Health, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control have provided scientific information about the current Covid-19 condition of our country and community. Our experts have given recommendations for our schools concerning covid protocols. Their job is to share the information and advise. Your job is to listen and act.
The Delta variant of Covid-19 is spreading very quickly and the numbers of positive cases. In our county, most 12 to 18 year old’s are not vaccinated and under 12 do not have the option. Many argue the death rate is low, but they do not realize how the long-term effects and hospitalizations are a very large burden to patients and their families. Covid-19 is airborne and one is contagious before showing symptoms. People have forgotten that my mask protects you the best. It is an act of kindness and consideration for our neighbors.
During the 2020-21 school year, class sizes were smaller, masks worn, social distancing practiced, and hybrid/remote options were in place. Currently, the plan for the 2021-22 school year is to have all students in-person and no masks required. Changing more than one factor from last year is not logical and a disaster waiting to happen.
Having all children learning in person is the most important goal for the year. A mask will help to reach this goal. It will minimize school outbreaks, cancellations, quarantines, and medical expenses. Again, Covid-19 is airborne and a person is contagious before symptoms appear. We have a right to know our children are being protected the best way possible. We have the right to not have Covid -19 forced on our children. Please help to keep our children safe and learning in person.
