Don't change the school schedule

I'm a Maine West senior, and D207 has been my home for the past three years. I've grown a lot during my 3 years at Maine West and now I see a potentially disastrous decision coming down the pipeline. This is why I am asking you to help the thousands of D207 students who face a schedule that reduces student choice, potentially harms AP scores, and further disadvantages low-achieving students.

Please sign my petition asking the D207 Board of Education to not approve a 'Hybrid 4 Bell Schedule' for the 2017-2018 school year. The Board meets JUNE 6TH AT 5PM so we don't have much time left.

"The new schedule reduces the number of periods from 9 to 8 without changing graduation requirements. This change will also facilitate each class will have a 90-minute period once a week, and the proposed day for student attendance will be from 7:30 to 3:30.

In order to accomplish this, all 1.5 period classes (science, AP mathematics, AP[,] art, and band) will become 1-period classes and the use of physical education waivers will be increased so that a large number of students will not take physical education."

Here you can find a report by the Maine Teachers’ Association Scheduling Committee on the effects of scheduling changes:

If you could also attend the Board meeting (June 6th at 5pm), it would be a great help. The meeting will be held at the D207 Administration Center at 1177 S Dee Rd, Park Ridge IL, 60068 (near Maine South HS)
