By raising the tax in the summer months will provide hardship on all Maine residences and citizens. Cost for commuters (most of Maine have to travel on average 40 mins to work one way to work) will cost them their paycheck. Gas was at $2.10/gal. at the beginning of the year and 4 months later it has jumped to $2.60/gal. If the tax gets raised we will be looking at $3.00/gal. at minimum for just gas. Tolls are already high on the highway. This isn’t even taking into account of oil. It will hurt local businesses as well. Their rates to run the businesses will increase lowering the amount of money they bring in to support their business and workers. It could potentially close businesses and seasonal businesses. By taxing the Maine community higher fuel prices it will make the living situations in Maine hard to find their basic household and business needs. It is April already and the price of gas is almost even with gas prices in New York. Help stop the taxation of Fuel for Maine citizens. It will impact and hurt the Maine Citizens; as well as the tourists rates bringing business into Maine. It doesn’t just hurt Maine citizens it hurts the tourists as well.
