Implement lasting repairs to Route 15 from Orland to Stonington

Rte 15 is crucial to the lives and livelihoods of the thousands of people who live and work in Orland, Penobscot, Blue Hill, Castine, Brooklin, Sedgwick, Surry, Deer Isle, Stonington and Isle au Haut. For many of us, it is the only access available for purchasing household essentials and business inputs, and selling the products that we make or harvest with pride.

The conditions of the road this winter were unacceptably bad. The conditions negatively affected our ability to travel to and from our schools and places of work. Buyers and suppliers of goods and services which are critical to our economic well-being were impeded from traveling to our towns, reluctant to damage their vehicles or the products being transported. This has real consequences for our households and our businesses. Perhaps most importantly, the poor condition of Rte 15 is a public safety hazard. Ambulances, fire trucks, and police vehicles cannot traverse the road safely or quickly. Persons with trauma injuries cannot be transported safely over the roads.

This is more than just a matter of a bumpy road. Route 15 from Orland to Stonington does not meet the requirements of having basic, reliable infrastructure to support our lives and work in Hancock county.
This is important to us.

Letter to
Maine Department of Transportation
Governor Paul LePage
We ask you implement lasting repairs to Route 15 from Orland to Stonington.
Rte 15 is crucial to the lives and livelihoods of the thousands of people who live and work in Orland, Penobscot, Blue Hill, Castine, Brooklin, Sedgwick, Surry, Deer Isle, Little Deer Isle, Stonington, Isle au Haut and elsewhere.

We understand that, because of resource constraints and the sheer amount of work that needs to be done, there is no quick fix. What we request are assurances and material action to indicate a substantive, effective, and comprehensive approach to a lasting solution for the repair and maintenance of Route 15 in our area.
Thank you for your consideration.
