Holly Chant started this petition to Maidstone Council Planning Department

Plans to develop the Somerfield Hospital site on London road have been met with concerns from some residents.

They worry the proposal, which includes 60 apartments, plus 12 new build apartments and townhouses and 1 house as well as parking, will likely increase congestion on London Road which becomes very busy with school children on their way to and from nearby schools.

The plans also include a proposed new gym on the site.

Residents also worry privacy for immediate neighbours will be impacted and that the heritage features of the grade II listed building will be lost by converting the building from two-storeys to three.

They are not opposed to the development but ask that Maidstone Council's Planning Department reconsider its plans with road safety, neighbours privacy and the heritage of the building in mind with the possibility of reducing the number of residences on the site and parking spaces.

Increased congestion caused by people entering and leaving the site from it's entrance on London Road could significantly increase traffic on an already busy road, adding to the likelihood of crashes and traffic incidents as well as longer car journeys for all who live in the area.
