Start Madison School District a week later

We think it would be beneficial to our community to start school a week later than scheduled. It currently is scheduled to start Aug 23rd, we would like it to start Aug 30th.
The reasons being:
1. This year we have unknown factors facing the eclipse on the 21st, we dont know what kinds of crowds and other issues we may still be dealing with 2 days later.
2. With the weather here in southeast Idaho it is usually very cool all through May and into June, while it is still hot through August and into September. The teachers I have talked to say it is very hard for the students to concentrate in the hotter weather, especially in our elementary schools which lack air conditioning and can become unbearably hot. We would be able to use our outdoor resources more with a later starting date. Rexburg Rapids, the splash park and Rigby Lake are better used later in the summer when the weather is warmer.
3. The BYU-I employees and student families don't get out until mid July, they would appreciate another week of summer vacation to spend with their children. Also the Madison School teachers could enjoy another week of summer vacation with their children in the warm weather since they start a week earlier than the students in the unbearable August heat.
If you agree with any one of these reasons please sign this petition and we will present it to the School Board for discussion. Thank you!
