Madison Plains Community started this petition to Madison Plains Administration and Board of Education

On Friday, May 1st, Madison Plains administration released plans for a Graduation Ceremony on May 22nd. While we appreciate that the decision was difficult due to current circumstances, we would like to propose an alternative plan.

Let's push the ceremony back to Friday, June 12th. By that time, restrictions may start to be lifted or lessened and the students can enjoy a ceremony with their classmates. We do not expect that it will be a traditional ceremony with a packed gymnasium. Instead, we are resigned to the fact that the best we may get would be students spaced apart on the football field and immediate families separated 10-15 feet in the stands.

We understand that the Ohio Department of Education released guidelines discouraging postponement of ceremonies. Their reason being that if the pandemic situation didn't improve, it could lead to further disappointment, but I don't think there can be much more disappointment that what we are all feeling right now. As we are all aware, things are changing rapidly, and simply taking a pause may lead to an outcome that the students are excited about. That goal should be our priority and postponing the ceremony to June 12th gives us hope.

Students were polled, and overwhelmingly favor this approach. This date was selected so that those joining the military could still be here. If the situation has not improved by June 12th, we can proceed with the drive up format that is currently planned on June 12th, perhaps at that time, we will be able to put all our cars in a circle and watch all the graduates.  Regardless, we will at least know you tried and listened to the people in the community.

Thank you for your consideration.
