Why this petition matters

To those who live in Madbury Commons, I'm sure you share the same frustration with the WiFi access that myself and my roommates have been struggling with. As part of our rental lease agreement, functional wireless internet connection was to be provided to residents. While these are unprecedented times, it was no secret that most students would be attending classes online this semester. This kind of increased, mass internet traffic would strain the bandwidth of any router, as expected. Unfortunately, Madbury Commons was fully aware this strain would be a problem for this semester and did not upgrade the WiFi to maintain its functionality. I know my roommates and I have been using our phone hot spots to ensure we do not get kicked off our exams and zoom lectures, so why are we paying part of rent for internet access that does not allow us to access the internet.

Because Madbury Properties was fully aware of the increase in internet traffic to be expected in their buildings this year, they owe it to their residents to follow through on their part of the agreement. Living here is becoming a detriment our education, and Madbury's response has been too slow, if not negligent.

This issue has been going on for weeks, and when I brought it up with Madbury Properties, they directed me to a WiFi service hot line. Upon calling this hot line, I was told they would look into it, and give me a call back. I asked for a time frame on the call back and he told me "I'm going to be honest, I know they're a little backed up right now so it might take a while." Unfortunately, as someone who is paying over $1000 a month to live here and attend university for tens of thousands of dollars, that is simply inadequate.

It's no secret that Madbury's leases are iron clad, anyone who has lived in one of their properties knows the extent to which they hold their residents to the lease agreement. As a resident, I intend to hold Madbury Properties responsible for their end of the agreement, which includes functional wifi.
