The McClymonds High School Alumni need your support in countering the petition by The Social Justice Liberation Coalition (SJLC) of McClymonds High School who believe that our current school mascot (They state the mascot is Native American/ the McClymonds mascot is NOT Native American nor is it culturally insensitive and dehumanizing).  (THE MCCLYMONDS ALUMNI DISAGREE WITH THIS FALSE STATEMENT. THE WARRIORS DISPLAYED THROUGHOUT MHS ARE AFRICAN WARRIORS. THE MCCLYMONDS WARRIOR IS AN AFRICAN WARRIOR).  Their petition is filled with misinformation and the SLJC does not understand the rich history of the McClymonds Warriors.  The SJLC has not done their homework to find out the meaning of the Warrior as it pertains to McClymonds High's history. The SJLC states in their petition that "people are NOT mascots and do not exist to be portrayed as characters!" (THIS STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE AS THERE ARE MASCOTS WHO ARE PEOPLE INCLUDING THE ONE'S THEY MENTION CHANGING THE MASCOT TO: A SPARTAN is a person of great courage and self discipline according to Webster Dictionary, A KNIGHT according to Webster Dictionary is a man who served his sovereign) but these are two suggestions they offer. WE WILL NOT HAVE OUR MASCOT CHANGED THAT WE HAVE HAD FOR OVER 100 YEARS. 

The SJLC is also making assumptions about the school administration that has NOT approved such a petition nor have they discussed the matter with the current administration. Letterhead's and other forms of correspondence is not an indicator that the administration of McClymonds agrees with this misinformed petition. The SJLC, is not vested in the McClymonds (West Oakland) Community.  Legends have walked through the halls of McClymonds. These legends are West Oakland Natives whose families span over many generations.  We will never allow visitors change our Legacy.  A change to our mascot would take a piece of our rich history and the legacy that has been set forth by our Distinguished Alumni.

We are calling on ALL McClymonds High Alumni, the West Oakland Community and Friends and Family of McClymonds High to sign this petition to remain the McClymonds Warriors: WE ARE MACK!!! WE ARE THE MACK WARRIORS!!!
