Ask the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority to stop risking lives

Please stop risking the lives of our children and your drivers by sending them out in unsafe conditions. The buses and student transport vans (which are even less safe, and happen to be my son's assigned transportation) were not cancelled on December 12th 2017. A fair number of students spent over two hours in dangerous traffic on the 12th as many of the main roads had yet to be plowed by 8:00am. Ottawa police reported before the afternoon rush that there had been dozens of collisions on city roads since the wee hours. Not canceling the buses in these situations it's unacceptable. The surrounding school boards cancelled transportation. Perhaps the person in charge of making the call on cancellations for the OSTA should be educated on safe winter road conditions and be required to cooperate with the city of Ottawa's snow removal branch to ensure our children are going out on clear roads after prolonged snowfall. They should also be held accountable for such a reckless decision on December 12th. With this being a La Niña year we can expect a lot of snowfall this winter. Let's get this sorted before someone gets seriously hurt. Let Lynn Scott, President/Chairperson, board of directors, Ottawa student Transportation Authority know that we expect our children's safety to be Paramount in their decisions.
