Meredith Shaw started this petition to Lyft and

This petition is to request that the two major rideshare platforms take the safety of it’s drivers more seriously. There is currently no requirement for identification for passengers who use the app.  This poses a direct threat to the safety of the platforms’ drivers.

In response to this threat, the following requests are being made:

1. All passenger accounts should require a full name and photo.  The person’s real first name and photo should be available to the driver for 100% of passengers.  An ID upload should be required for all passengers to be retained by Lyft, as it is for drivers.

2. When sending a rideshare for another person, the full name of the person we are picking up should be provided, if a photo could be provided as well, that would be ideal.  This is a scenario that is particularly dangerous as any person could jump in the car, posing major threats to the driver.  Also, even in the event that the correct passenger enters the car, there is no tracking information about this passenger.

ADDITIONALLY:

3. When passengers order rides for others, they should be required to attest the passenger is over 18yo, removing the responsibility of age checking from the driver and back to the owner of the credit card.

4. A reminder that car seats are required for children under 8years old should be prominent on the app.  Many rides have been refused because the passenger did not realize they are required to have carseats for their own child.

Drivers acknowledge the need for identification transparency to the passengers and request the same transparencies be provided for their safety as well.  Rideshare works because of trust between drivers and passengers and it can only continue to work when all possible measures are made to keep both safe.
