So as I'm sure most of you have seen, or are somewhat aware of, the fact that LUSH are currently in some hot water due to donating money from their Charity Pot funds to the anti-trans/TERF group WPUK (Women's Place UK). I had heard about this a few days ago but the only evidence was on WPUK's financial statement for 2020, I was hoping that this was some sort of mistake or miscommunication of some sort and waited for LUSH to release a statement, which they did today.

In this statement all they seem to do is make excuses and try to talk away why they let funds go to a group that, following the guidelines of the LUSH Charity Pot, shouldn't have gone to at all. In a statement they made to PinkNews (linked below) LUSH said they have a policy of not funding “campaigning work, discussion or lobbying on the specifics of the proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act” but supposedly the grant predated their awareness of how toxic discussion around this issue had become. On top of this, in the guidelines for applying for the LUSH Charity Pot, it states that they will not fund groups that harbour racism or prejudice, deny the human rights of others or judge others on anything other than their actions. The total amount given to WPUK was £3000, which was applied for to go towards events organisation.

Stranger still is the fact that this donation to WPUK wasn't listed on LUSH's public list of grant recipients, which makes it harder to believe that they weren't aware of the groups views, also considering the fact that Rebecca Lush, a long supporter of WPUK and journalist who has written anti-trans articles for Morning Star Online was integral in starting up the LUSH Charity Pot back in 2007 and is also the Giving Coordinator for donations from the pot.

I'm sure, like myself, you are all incredibly disappointed with this whole situation and the way that LUSH have dealt with it, more so considering how vocal they are about social justice issues and how hugely supportive of the LGBTQIA+ community they've seemed to be in the past, usually also having big campaigns through Pride month and knowing MANY of their staff are a part of our community.

I'd very much like to see LUSH/Mark Constantine release an actual explanation/apology for why this has happened, to sever ties with Rebecca Lush Blum and make donations/reparations to the trans community in the UK, I'd personally suggest Mermaids or Not A Phase who are actual charities and do extensive work towards helping the trans community and trans youth.

Thank you all hugely for your time reading this and your continued support.
