We, the undersigned students of Sharon High School, hereby indicate our total support for the reorganization of the lunch schedule. We propose a return to the schedule of the old building: four separate lunch periods, each approximately twenty five minutes in duration, with the order being juniors, then freshman, then sophomores, then seniors.

While we acknowledge the school’s admirable attempt to break down the community’s silos by integrating different grades, the desired effect has not actually been realized. Instead, the result is that many students often struggle to find seating at lunch because there is no consistent group of friends with whom they can routinely sit. Moreover, although the seniors sincerely appreciate the school’s efforts to reserve an area for their convenience, the senior area is not large enough to seat a third of the entire class at once.

The current three-part lunch schedule neither accomplishes its goal of community integration nor meets the needs of the student body. Therefore, we reiterate our desire to immediately revert the lunch schedule to its original state, and we would truly appreciate the school’s consideration of this matter.
