Natalie Barton started this petition to Lucia Mar School District

Within the Lucia Mar Unified School District, the disturbing lack of education revolving around rape culture has impacted the impression made on the young and impressionable minds of the students attending the schools of the district. As such it is imperative that this is changed effective immediately and that rape culture is added to the curriculum. Teaching about rape culture can help prevent as well as make people more aware of rape. As such it is imperative to teach about the cruelties of rape and the culture behind it, as it will benefit not only our school but the community in its entirety. Teaching this will not only bring awareness to the topic, but also show that survivor’s stories matter. That their voices matter, and that we care about how to prevent any further violence, harassment, and abuse. Teaching this topic is merely the first step of the long journey to creating an environment in which we are safe from rapists and rape. Each step we take towards a safer community is crucial.
