Morgan Moralez started this petition to Lubbock Police Department, and The City of Lubbock

I have been an offhand victim of the careless, improper and damaging handling of Mentally Ill residents in Lubbock County, Texas. I have also been the victim of domestic violence in such cases and the way that things are dealt with by the police is very alarming. With this petition I am aiming to address both of those issues with the city of Lubbock, and need your help to do so. On September 3rd, 2021 my brother called the police begging them to kill him, standing atop of a parking garage threatening to end his life. Instead of taking him to a hospital they put him in jail for 24hrs and then released him with a 300 ticket due to public intoxication. This is outrageous. My brother calls the police almost daily, and we have to have them involved for our safety very frequently. They always say that they cannot detain him against his will for mental health unless he is saying in the moment that he is going to kill himself or someone else. We have been trying for months to get an involuntary hold on him with no avail. The perfect opportunity with "real" and legal cause, swept by the officers and they put him back on the streets in less than 24hrs. Instead of giving him the LONG awaited stint in a mental health facility that we have been praying for. I am not saying this lightly, that he is a very dangerous person, to himself and others. My greatest fear and a COMMON threat is that he will kill himself or someone else, when a better practice could have been in place to prevent such a tragedy. I have been a first hand victim to this on more than one occasion, wherein ties my plea to the proper handling of domestic abuse issues in Lubbock, Tx. I know that if me and my family are facing such issues, some of you may be facing similar issues as well. I know that I am not alone, and I want you to know that neither are you. I am asking you to share and sign this petition to help make this community safer, and possibly to save the life of my brother and hopefully many other people too. I am extremely grateful for your time and efforts. -Sincerely.
