Climate Strike Baton Rouge started this petition to LSU Administration

Louisiana State University has to this point not integrated or seriously pursued renewable energy into its campus infrastructure. We, the cosigned are petitioning for upper LSU administration and architects of future campus construction to prioritize integration of renewable energies in future campus structures, so that we can significantly offset our carbon footprint and begin to catch up to peer institutions who generate as much as 50% to 90% of their electricity from renewable sources.

LSU's status as a leader in innovation in Louisiana and among SEC schools should require us to prioritize this issue in new campus structures. LSU should allow itself to become as much of a leader in the state in renewable energy and just climate solutions as it does in leading research and academics in the state. So, integrating the use of renewable energy in new buildings such as the proposed new library or new life sciences building must be a priority.

Louisiana as a coastal state is on the front lines of the effects of climate change. It is estimated by the National Climate Assessment that Louisiana may lose up to 4,000 square miles of coastline over the next 50 years if significant action is not take on climate change. We ask that LSU take its own share of responsibility of this as a large institution and invest significant research and resources into renewable energy on our campus.
