Kate Hansen started this petition to Loyola Marymount University

We, as students, respectfully request that Loyola Marymount University should make all online classes synchronous with the option of asynchronous classes for those who cannot attend in real time.

When classes are asynchronous, as many currently are, the quality of the education is not the quality that LMU promises. Being out of the classroom and learning from a computer screen is disengaging as a student.

The most successful way to learn for students and to teach for professors are through synchronous classes.

Synchronous classes hold both students and professors accountable, similarly to on-campus classes. Synchronous classes also allow the social aspect of college that is currently missing. Students are able to collaborate with their peers and ask their professor questions when they are present during a synchronous class.

Without synchronous classes, students have to teach themselves. Asynchronous classes at LMU are essentially incredibly expensive podcasts.

We chose to attend LMU for a reason: LMU offers a world-class undergraduate education. We want to be present, engaged, and motivated. We know this semester looks different, but please help us get the best education possible through synchronous online classes.
