Change the name of Harriton High School because it honors Richard Harrison, a slave owner

Harriton High School is named after one of the early settlers of Bryn Mawr, Richard Harrison. Harrison owned one of the largest tobacco plantations in the North during colonial times, and, unsurprisingly, his planation was run by enslaved people. Although accounts vary, it is said he could have had anywhere from twenty to ninety-nine slaves at any point in his life.

Lower Merion School District should not honor Harrison by naming a school after him. Slavery is a despicable, extremely racist institution, and the effects of historical slavery in the U.S. have directly influenced the systemic racism present in our society today. Demand that LMSD change the name of Harriton High School so we no longer honor a horrible, racist man.
