Why this petition matters

Started by Haylee Bango

Last year, the price to do a single load of laundry was $1.50 for Southern Connecticut University Residents. That means that a student would have to pay 3 dollars to use both the washer and dryer once. This year, SCSU has increased the price to 2 dollars.

This means that for one single load, a student will be paying 4 dollars. On average, people do about 1-2 loads of laundry a week. This means a student can be paying 16-32 dollars monthly just to wash their clothes.

It's already very costly to live on campus, and students have other things to worry about paying for (Gas, food, textbooks). Every students financial situation is different, and it's not fair to expect people who already pay a very high price to live on campus to additionally pay this much to wash their clothes. Laundry is a necessity, not a privilege. Increasing costs for a necessity puts lower income students, and those who do not have time to work a job during the school year in an even tighter financial position.
