Karen Van Orden started this petition to Lower Cape May Regional School District

The state of New Jersey has encouraged all high schools  to recognize all non-athletic competitors with a varsity letter.   This law, passed by the state Assembly and Senate, states that any team that participates in inter district competition can be Eligible for a varsity latter.  This includes teams like the robotics club, marching bands and mock trial.

In the past,  the Lower Cape May Regional School district has refused to award varsity letters to mock trial participants.   As a matter of fact,  the issue has been brought up several times and shot down by the Board of Education citing that Mock Trial is not a sport.   This goes against state recommendations.   Middle Township HS and Mainland HS have recognized their members with a varsity team letter.

We don't know why ANYONE would deny a hard working student an honor they earned.  Mock trial is a rigorous academic endeavor that is highly regarded by institutions of higher education.

Right now, the highly successful mock trial team at LCMR is amongst the top 2 teams in the ENTIRE STATE.  Compromised of just 6 members-3 seniors and 3 juniors- their hope is to inspire younger students to join mock trial and keep the tradition of winning alive.

We're asking for support from the community and asking for your signature.
