Why this petition matters

Started by Cllr Seán Kelly

Liam Reilly (29 January 1955 – 1 January 2021) was an Irish singer/songwriter from Dundalk, Co Louth and a member of the group Bagatelle, formed in 1978 by drummer Walter (Wally) McConville along with bass player Ken Doyle and guitarist John O’Brien.

Cllr Kevin Meenan and Cllr Maeve Yore proposed a motion at the February meeting of Dundalk Municipal Council 'that the Council look at a way of marking and recognising Dundalk's late Liam Reilly and his contribution to music.'

Cllr Seán Kelly proposed that we ask Louth County Council/Dundalk BIDs company to work with the extremely successful SEEK Dundalk Festival to create a new Mural in the town centre in honour of the late Liam Reilly.

Cllr Kevin Meenan proposed a bench in St Leonard's Garden, Seatown close to where Liam resided. Cllr Meenan also referenced other towns around Ireland commemorating their music legends:

Big Tom - Castleblayney / Joe Dolan - Mullingar / Dolores ORiordan - Limerick / Rory Gallagher - Ballyshannon
