Stop Cervid(Deer Species) Importation Ban of Louisiana
This petition made change with 255 supporters!
Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries has proposed a ban on out-of-state deer heads and parts (Meat with bone, Carcass, etc) entering Louisiana. This ban has been proposed as an effort to prevent the introduction of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) into Louisiana's White-tail population.
This proposal outlines issues that CWD may cause. The ban would prohibit the importation of cervid (Members of the deer family) carcasses, not including Deboned meat, CLEAN Skull plates with Antlers attached, Cleaned skulls with NO meat tissue attached, Capes, tanned hides, Taxidermy, and CLEAN cervid teeth.
This ban proposal's purpose is to reduce the likelihood that CWD Will enter Louisiana through Carcass importation. Approved parts and deboned meat will be required to be tagged with a possession tag with the hunters name, out-of-state license number (If required), address, species, date and location of harvest. Follow each state's possession requirements, which can be found by contacting their Parks and Wildlife's departments.
This ban will not only affect hunters and meat gatherers alike, but will also put a strain on the Taxidermy and Meat processing industries across the state of Louisiana. This petition is proposed to stop the ban of cervids into Louisiana. As a community, we can all come together and keep the proposed ban from becoming a law until we have further evidence based on extensive research from the State's Wildlife and Fisheries Department.
