The hall is a part of Bristol, and the name of Bristol's history.

You can call it what you like it will always be the Colston hall to me. The money they will use to change the name should be spent to help people who are trapped in modern day slavery.

Colston was a man of his time. As a very regular concertgoer. I am not pleased with the decision.

Taking away the Colston name is like trying to remove the past history of our city, however unpalatable. We cannot undo the past and must continually learn from it, and to remove the Colston name leads to a denial of what took place in an appalling era. I would appeal for a Colston Foundation which would help people to learn from the past, and to ensure that such dreadful dehumanising of people could never happen again.

There are many things including slavery that are completely unacceptable now but life was very different and historical names should remain as part of our heritage and a reminder of the difference
