Require Nutritional Labels on School Lunches in the LAUSD

We, the undersigned, believe the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) should print the nutritional information of the daily school lunches it provides to its 640,000 students, for the following reasons:

1. Making the nutritional value of foods available in the form of labels on the foods and menus will help kids make more conscientious decision regarding the nutrition of the food they consume.

2. Kids who wish to eat healthy often skip lunch altogether because they do not know the nutrition of the food available. Printing labels on food would mitigate the impact of kids’ not eating due to lack of knowledge of what they are eating.

3. Labels will help hold the LAUSD accountable for the food it produces, thus urging stronger compliance with the USDA Food Standards.
