Retire Fernando Valenzuela's Jersey

Retire Fernando Valenzuela's Jersey
Why this petition matters

April 9th is the 40th anniversary of Fernandomania. 40 years ago, Fernando Valenzuela revolutionize Baseball. No other pitcher had the amazing start that Fernando had on his rookie season. That year in 1981, he helped the Dodgers win the World Series and became the first baseball player to win the Rookie of the Year and the Cy Young award.
This petition is for the Dodgers to take into account the great ambassador that Fernando Valenzuela has been to the Dodgers, the game of Baseball and his impact in the Los Angeles community. Fernando's number 34 hasn't been worn by any player since Valenzuela and it is time that his jersey is officially retire.
There are several baseball teams that retire baseball players jerseys' that made an impact on their team. These teams don't require their player to be elected into the hall of fame. Currently, every Dodgers player whose number has been retired is a hall of famer except for Junior Gilliam who passed away in an accident and Dodgers decided to retire his number 19.
This petition asks the Dodgers to consider the approach of several baseball teams that have decided to retire players number without being elected into the hall of fame. A good example is the Philadelphia Phillies when they retired Chase Utley's number. It is time the Dodgers retire Fernando Valenzuela's number. This year being the 40 year anniversary of his famous rookie season would be the perfect year to pay tribue to a great baseball ambassador. #RetireDodgers34
