Why this petition matters

Started by Aaron Garcia

Make no mistake - George Floyd's death was a senseless tragedy. The protests are well-deserved.

But think of the impact: Los Angelenos' communities and livelihoods are being adversely affected by the county-wide curfews the county has put in place to combat the George Floyd protests. These curfews, while reasonable at first, are now being perpetuated with no advance notice, and with no end in sight.

Many of us can only leave the house for errands in the evening hours and it makes it difficult or costly to procure living essentials - online ordering is not an option as many areas have had postal service or deliveries slowed or halted.

The county-wide curfew puts unnecessary strain on an already strained populace that is already struggling to meet its daily needs due to COVID-19 social distancing measures put in place by the county.

The effect is especially harsh for communities where there has been little to no damage or looting from the protests, which should be able to exempt themselves from this unnecessary burden.

Los Angeles is a massive county (the most populated in the United States) and the economic damage done by effectively cutting in half the hours through which normal business can be conducted is creating a growing cost that all LA County citizens, businesses and taxpayers all bear.

Sign the petition to end the curfews and win back your nightly freedom - and let's all get back to living a more normal life.
