Tourism is LA's number one employer, but it's also home to one of the city's largest low-wage sectors, hospitality. Currently 40 percent of LA's hospitality workers live below twice the federal poverty limit.

We need city leaders to stand up for working Angelenos and move quickly to schedule a joint hearing on August 15 of the Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee and the Housing, Community and Economic Development Committee.

This hearing will be the first step in moving forward a real vision for the Los Angeles tourism industry through the Destination LA policy. Destination LA is focused on strengthening the industry, but also the workers and the communities who make Los Angeles a world-class destination.

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge

----------------
Dear Councilman LaBonge,

I urge you to move in scheduling a joint hearing of the Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee and the Housing, Community and Economic Development Committee on August 15. The Destination LA partnership is a step forward in the right direction for thousands of hotel workers. Your leadership in scheduling this meeting will allow the Committees to hear from hotel workers, community organizations, LA residents and industry leaders who want to see the Destination LA policy move forward to create a stronger tourism industry in LA.

We need city leaders like you to support hard-working Angelenos now! Tourism is LA's number one employer, but it's also home to one of the city's largest low-wage sectors, hospitality. Currently 40 percent of LA's hospitality workers live below twice the federal poverty limit.

This hearing will be the first step in moving forward a real vision for the Los Angeles tourism industry through the Destination LA policy. Destination LA is focused on strengthening the industry, but also the workers and the communities who make Los Angeles a world-class destination.

Sincerely,

Los Angeles Resident and Proud Supporter of LA's Hospitality Workers
