Education is a universal human right and a strong catalyst for social progress. It is widely believed that education improves society and the economy. Considering the value of education for individuals and for society, it is important that education has equity and equality for all. Many people believe that education is equal in America, and it is only third world countries that suffer with this problem, however that is not the case. In 2014, the high school graduation rate for white students was 87 percent, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. For black students, the rate was 73 percent. Test scores show a similar racial gap. The large disparities in achievement between black and white students were almost entirely due to differences in the quality of education, rooted in economical differences.
