Please sign this petition to prevent ATSU from taking advantage of its already financially burdened students.

ATSU is automatically enrolling students in their $4200.00 annual health insurance plan, which simply put, many students don't need. Most students don't have any income during Dental School and therefore are able to qualify for state coverage through Arizona's State Medicaid Program better known as AHCCCS. The School policy demands that students who complete out-of-state rotations enroll in the ATSU plan because Medicaid doesn't provide comprehensive coverage out of state.

After many discussions with state Medicaid offices, this is not the case. Under federal law, any person who qualifies for Medicaid cannot be denied coverage, even when visiting another state.  All states must comply with requirement CFR 435.403(j)(3) regarding the temporary absence. "an otherwise eligible individual may not be denied Medicaid eligibility because that individual is temporarily absent from the state if the individual intends to return to the state when the purpose of the absence has been completed".

The $350.00 a month spent on this useless healthcare plan could benefit students and their families and children in so many other areas. Please help us make a change.
