Put a Pedestrian Light at the Crosswalk in front of John Muir School, Berkeley
This petition had 683 supporters
John Muir Elementary School is a beautiful campus on Claremont Ave. in Berkeley. Claremont Avenue is a four-lane street. The speed limit is 25 miles an hour but people regularly drive 40-45 miles per hour as the gaps between traffic lights allow cars to pick up speed.
The crosswalk in front of John Muir School is dark and unsafe with no traffic or pedestrian light. This fact has been pointed out to city staff several times over the past few years. The night of March 8, 2016, after a PTA meeting, a 4th grade girl was hit by a car in the crosswalk. Both her legs were broken.
The school community is appalled that this has happened -- especially after reaching out to the city of Berkeley multiple times since 2014.
Please join us in demanding that the City of Berkeley put in better lighting and a pedestrian light at the crosswalk in front of John Muir to keep all our kids (and parents and teachers and staff) safe.
