Hayden McNeil Wiki is a horrible site for writing chemistry labs with. The formatting of their writing system is inconvenient and barely usable. A few examples are: there are no ways to add rows to an existing table or anyways to customize a table's borders; there are no ways of changing font sizes or fonts except for the 5 useless preselected font settings; the system to adding pictures is extremely un-user-friendly; the list goes on. My fellow students and I have experienced cases of extreme annoyance and anxiety from using this application. Most of our time working on the lab reports is figuring out how to format our labs in Hayden McNeil, Hayden McNeil Wiki does not help with our education and, to a certain extent, even negatively impact the students' performance and impedes our abilities to write a lab report that reflects our actual skills.
The writing part of the Hayden McNeil is a dysfunctional application that UNC chemistry students are forced to use instead of Microsoft Word, which has a much more developed system for writing scientific papers.
This issue can easily be solved by Lori Del Negro if she allowed students to upload their labs in the form of word documents.
