Martin County Taxpayers Against $1.8 Million Library Proposal
This petition had 145 supporters
Business owners, farmers, and residential home owners in Loogootee townships of Perry, along with Rutherford, and Crane will be forced to pay significantly higher property taxes if the Martin County Council approves a proposed new library. Over 8,000 square foot building at an estimated cost of $1.8 million would be the minimum. Citizen's United of Loogootee taxpayers believe this proposal is way too excessive for the current community population. Currently the library services 22-24% of the population based on the numbers they have provided.
The library board and it's supporters never solicited any community feedback, suggestions, or support, prior to presenting to the Martin County Council at their April meeting. Instead, wanted a vote of approval for the project without any knowledge or opposition from impacted taxpayers.
Citizen's United of Loogootee taxpayers feel this is excessive and unnecessary as it is being currently proposed, and are asking for the Martin County Council to vote NO on this proposal at their next meeting.
