Chicago Public School students, whose current school day is only 5:45, deserve a comparable school day to students in wealthy suburban school districts such as Naperville (6:50 for intermediate grades) and Wilmette (6:40). Under "petition updates," we ocassionally post links to samples of the vast body of research which shows that additional instructional time and enrichment activities boost student achievement, creativity, and overall academic success. It is time we speak up in support of our children and in support of a longer school day. Let's turn our attention to building constructive and cooperative relationships with those who are in a position to help us secure funding for additional instructional time and enrichment activities.
