At Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School, students only receive 50-minute lunch breaks, and this includes cleanup time for the caretakers. Oftentimes, this will cut 15 minutes into our lunch break, thus only giving 35 minutes to eat and socialize with friends. This is not enough time to do everything we need, especially with all the stress that occurs in our daily lives. Furthermore, many students would prefer to go home for lunch, as they don’t feel safe eating in the school with the pandemic situation. However, with the shortened lunch periods, this is not possible, since many will be late to their 2nd-period class. As such, we are proposing that we revert to the pre-COVID schedule of 75-minute lunch breaks.
