Long Beach Animal Care Services: Please take the pledge not to kill any savable animals for "Just One Day" on June 11, 2013.

Every day, thousands of animals are killed in shelters across the country because they are homeless. We now know that there are better methods of animal sheltering based on the no kill equation. We are asking Long Beach Animal Care Services to join a nationwide effort by signing a pledge to stop euthanizing shelter animals for "Just One Day" and make June 11, 2013 a day when no healthy, adoptable animal is killed just because it doesn't have a home. We are also asking LBACS to take additional proactive adoption efforts - mobile adoptions, outreach to rescues, "Just One Day" adoption publicity and reduced adoption fees - on this day. This effort will put Long Beach, CA on the path to becoming “the safest city in California for people and animals” that it claims to be.

Letter to
Long Beach Animal Care Services Ted Stevens
Last year 5,880 animals, the vast majority of them companion dogs and cats, were euthanized by Long Beach Animal Care Services. We now know that more progressive methods of animal sheltering exist. We are asking Long Beach Animal Care Services to please sign the second annual "Just One Day" pledge to stop euthanizing shelter animals for "Just One Day" and make June 11, 2013 a day when no healthy, adoptable animal is killed in the city of Long Beach. We are also asking LBACS to take additional proactive adoption efforts - mobile adoptions, outreach to rescues, "Just One Day" adoption publicity, extended hours and reduced adoption fees - in an effort to show the public its commitment to increasing adoptions on this day. This effort will put Long Beach, CA on the path to becoming “the safest city in California for people and animals” that it claims to be.
