LSE has refused to distribute course packs for its degree programmes for the 20/21 academic year, blaming COVID-19. Searching for the justification of this move in official LSE COVID-19 response policy yields no results. Clearly they are using a pandemic to disguise a cynical cost-cutting exercise.

This move is socially unjust, as it disproportionally detriments:

  • Students who cannot afford a tablet to annotate notes.
  • Students who cannot afford to print off hundreds of pages of course notes.
  • Students who cannot afford textbooks.
  • Students who struggle to study from a screen.

In a year when students are receiving the most limited service in return for their university fees, it seems that course packs should be a small concession to improve student wellbeing.

Therefore this petition requests that LSE distributes course packs to students who ask for them in a COVID-secure way.
