Why this petition matters

Started by Lynn Gracey

In April, 2019 we lost the barrier of trees that lined the end of our street. I am writing this petition as a concerned taxpayer who lives on the part of Chester St that dead ends at Wellington Rd. The apartments that are on Wellington Crt have (had) the most wonderfully old trees on it and the owner of the apartment building on the other side of the dead end took all the trees down. There were more than 40 trees that created a barrier between the Wellington Street apartments and our quiet dead end street.

Those trees shielded our dead end street from the sights and sounds of Wellington Rd.  Since the removal of those trees, our street has seen a lot more pedestrian traffic cutting though, we have seen a rise in vehicle, and property break ins; more garbage, including needles on the street; and now we have seen evidence of vehicles cutting through to Wellington St. across the curb and tree stumps.

We would like the City of London or the apartment owner who originally took down the barrier in 2019 to replace the barrier with trees or a fence with a possible pedestrian staggered opening to prevent motor vehicles to cut through, discourage pedestrians from cutting through without purpose, cut down the noise and sights from Wellington Rd. and create a more visually appealing end to our street.
