Changing to nuclear power in the UK
Despite what you might think, nuclear power produces a very small amount of nuclear waste. The amount produced in one year in the UK is about the size of the lower deck of a double decker bus. It also produces absolutely no carbon dioxide, making it much more eco-friendly.
Additionally, the nuclear waste produced can be used to protect areas. Since nuclear waste is considered dangerous to humans, if it is implanted somewhere (for example Peak District, 50 to 60 metres deep), the area would be restricted to humans. This means humans wouldn't be able to build anything there. Therefore, life would thrive more than we would expect. And I know what you're thinking. Doesn't the nuclear waste affect the animals? The effect of nuclear waste actually fades away quite quickly, making it safe for animals and plants to thrive without being affected negatively at all.
An example of this is when a group of scientists in the late 1900s decided to use a nuclear bomb on an island and declare it as dangerous so no one could go near it. Around 10 to 15 years later, they came back expecting terrible conditions. They were surprised when they saw that the island was teeming with life. After all those years with no humans to bother them, the animals made lives for themselves.
Changing to nuclear power would have a huge effect on everyone in the UK if done soon enough, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and slowing down climate change. Together, we can make a change.
