Affordable Housing for families with kids enrolled in SFUSD schools
Affordable Housing for families with kids enrolled in SFUSD schools
Problem:
Many students struggle to get the education they deserve due to homelessness or the worry/distress that comes with not having a stable home. More than 2,500 students attending San Francisco public schools were identified as homeless in the last school year. One in every 25 students was homeless in the 2015-16 school year. This is a serious problem that needs to be fixed!
Solution: Prioritize affordable housing for families with kids enrolled in SFUSD.
Personal Story:
SFUSD teacher: When my brother graduated from graduate school, he moved to Pittsburgh. His job didn't pay him too much, but was able to save a lot and buy a house. He used that house to rent half and build a savings account. He later bought a second house to rent to continue building his portfolio.
Compare that to me. I graduated from graduate school and got a similar job with a similar base salary. I still am forced to live in a house with 5 other roommates in a tiny room. I have 1/6 of a refrigerator to keep my food and have to share a kitchen with six others. This means I have to order or go out to eat more, further spending money that I don't have. I cannot save money and will NEVER be able to buy a house if I keep living in SF.
