Nowadays, the number of cyclists on London roads has more than doubled in the past decade. And the increasing interest of London being one of the top smart cities, it is easier than ever to cycle with the numerous bicycle docks around the city.

Being a resident in London and a cyclist I have been around many of its boroughs and neighbourhoods I often find myself thinking why can’t the cycling lanes be cleaner and neater for a hazard-free and smooth ride?

For instance, I have experienced that most bicycle lanes around London due to the nature of their location (i.e. next to bus stops and side walks) become a place, where most people toss their litter resulting in a hazardous path for cyclists all around London. From glass shards to cans and cracked open grounds most bicycle lanes can become extremely unsafe and dangerous for cyclists, who may be unaware of these hazards. Therefore, cyclist may be prone to an imminent danger to fellow cyclists and/or drivers. As much as we'd take a road accident seriously, it is paramount to consider bicycle accidents with a curious mind and equal respect.

Safer and hazard-free cycling lanes can have a huge impact at an individual level and the broader community as we increase road awareness regarding cycling. In addition, cleaner cycling lanes mean that we exponentially decrease the amount of accidents and physical injuries due to unsuitable cycling lanes.
