Martin Donkin started this petition to John Biggs (Mayor, London Borough of Tower Hamlets) and

There is an increasing use of the Basin Approach waterfront and Ropemakers Field park as a connection between Regents Canal and Cycle Superhighway 3. There is no official provision for people on bikes using this connecting route and there is no other safe and direct alternative.

To address reports of conflict between people on bikes and other users, the Council (with the support of some local residents) has proposed anti-cycling measures. These measures will reduce the quality of this route for people on bikes.

We propose an alternative:

In order to reduce conflicts between users and in accordance with the Council's commitment to increase the quality of cycling provision, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets should implement a high-quality cycle path that links the Regents Canal with Cycle Superhighway 3.

The path should be continuous and meet the highest possible standards as defined in the London Cycling Design Standards (LCDS).

Where possible, this path should segregate people on bikes and people on foot to avoid possible conflicts. This may require the consideration of engineering solutions. For example, it may be necessary to install a wider bridge over Limehouse Cut to allow for segregation.
