Richmond Council - Keep the Limit at Six
0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!
Richmond council are proposing to introduce a Public Space Protection Order to replace their current Dog Control Order. This is already at the consultation stage and we only have until 12th April 2017 to respond.
- The order states that only four dogs can be walked together by any one person, reduced from the six agreed after a thorough consultation in 2012.
Please don't stop reading this just because you don't live in the Borough of Richmond, your opinion still matters.
We are asking Richmond Council to KEEP the limit at SIX dogs and deal with the ACTUAL PROBLEM, those individual dog owners and dog walkers who do not respect the parks and other park users, as opposed to targeting responsible, professional dog walkers.
The vast majority of professional dog walkers take their responsibilities very seriously, don't walk more than six dogs per person and are insured to do so. We work hard to ensure that the dogs not only have a great time and are well exercised, but that they are also under control and do not cause a nuisance to other park users. We are fastidious about cleaning up after the dogs in our care and even other poop that irresponsible dog owners/walkers leave behind.
WE WANT OUR PROFESSION TO BE RESPECTED AND RECOGNISED.
A reduction to 4 will have a huge impact, not only on people who own at least 4 dogs, but also on professional dog walkers and their clients.
We, as professional dog walkers, would have no choice but to do one or more of the following:
- Reduce our customer base
- Reduce the length of walks
- Increase number of walks; increasing car journeys, traffic and pollution
- Increase our prices substantially
- Stop doing a job that we love as it becomes unviable
Professional Dog Walkers provide a valuable service to dog owners and are an essential part of the community. We provide so much more than just walking a dog… advice, friendship, support and often we may be the only people that some of our clients see in a day.
Not only do we not want to give up the job we love, but we also want to provide this service at an affordable rate, and for the dogs in our care to enjoy an off lead long run.
