Stanmore Station Access

This petition asks the London Borough of Harrow / TfL to improve access to Stanmore Station as a priority via
1) a lift to the platform level ticket office and also
2) the provision of a drop-off / pick-up location for private cars.
Financing for this should be made available from whatever source can be negotiated - TFL, central government, Harrow, the developers for the proposed Merrion Avenue housing block replacing Jubilee House.
Currently access to Stanmore station is via
1) A steep set of stairs to the top
2) Fewer stairs along a dark narrow alley
3) "So called" disabled access that involves a several minute climb along a ramp into the station car park and a further walk to the main entrance.
None of these are acceptable for
a) disabled people (wheelchair users, people with restricted mobility, etc.),
b) the elderly
c) people with appointments at the nearby Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital
d) people with luggage
e) mothers with small children / push chairs.
The new housing proposed for Merrion Avenue was originally planned to include a lift / elevator to reach the Stanmore station platforms. This should be compulsory as part of planning consent. It is shameful that Stanmore - that has in its area the RNOH - does not view this provision as a priority and this must change.
In addition, a parking circle such as at Edgware Underground should be provided so people can be picked up / dropped off at Stanmore Underground - especially to help the aforementioned groups.
Both these issues (lack of lift and lack of drop-off / pick-up parking) have been long-term issues for Stanmore residents as seen at https://www.navinshah.com/news/campaign/accessibility_transport
