R Dickson started this petition to Councillor Helen Fisher (Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport) and

Villages near to Loggerheads, namely Eccleshall, Baldwins Gate, Whitmore and Great Bridgeford have either a Pelican or Zebra Crossing to ensure their residents can cross their roads  SAFELY. In fact Baldwins Gate has TWO Pelican Crossings within 200 yards of each other!

TOTAL POPULATION Of WHITMORE, BALDWINS GATE AND GREAT BRIDGEFORD IS 1925 ( 2011 CENSUS)

POPULATION OF LOGGERHEADS VILLAGE IS 2866 (2011 CENSUS)

Since half term in November 2019 two things have happened regarding crossing the A53 safely. The two person school crossing control which saw our children safely across the very busy A53 trunk road have retired. We have a TEMPORARY one person crossing person in their place. Secondly the risk assessment of the A53 has been raised from LOW to MODERATE

The majority of the population of Loggerheads lives on one side of the A53 and the facilities in the village, school, shops etc are on the other side of the A53. This means that primary school and secondary school children, general public and pensioners have to cross this very busy road to go to school or visit the shops.

The Loggerheads Parish Council and Hugo Meynell School are working together to try and persuade Staffordshire County Council to install a Pelican Crossing to protect the local community when crossing this very busy road.

We need all the help we can get and we would ask you and your friends to sign our petition either via email, Twitter or Facebook or Your Neighbourhood.

WE NEED A PELICAN CROSSING BEFORE WE INCUR A FATALITY WITHIN OUR VILLAGE.
