Denton Urban Singletrack Alliance

The Denton cycling community has had a long history and has been home to a variety of different types of riders; from recreation to professional. Located outside of the metroplex and only a 40 minute drive from downtown Dallas and Fort Worth, Denton can offer a unique riding and spectating experience for all involved. As Denton county continues to grow, it only makes sense that the cycling community follows in its footsteps.

The city of Denton is home to a number of sports facilities which include: tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, softball fields, football fields, a rugby field, an inline skating rink, a disc golf course, a golf range, a bike polo court, and a skate park. However, multiuse and bike specific trails in Denton are few and far between. Inspired by the Trinity Trails found in Fort Worth, and Katie Jackson Park in Dallas, an urban trail and bike park in Denton would provide residents and visitors a unique recreational opportunity suitable for all ages and skill levels. Furthermore, it would allow those who own bicycles but do not feel comfortable riding on open streets, the chance to be active in a safe environment.

In addition to the health benefit, our community would have the opportunity to host weekly races or larger weekend long events. Such events can give individuals and families across the metroplex another reason to visit our wonderful city. Thanks to the popularity of events such as, the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival, and various sporting events held by the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University, Denton provides a unique experience of north Texas. These large events have shown to help boost our local economy as many love to experience the Downtown Square and other captivating attractions. Events held at a future trail and bike park could help attract more visitors and make Denton a top cycling destination for riders and spectators alike.
