Commit Lodi Unified School District to 100% Clean, Renewable Energy!

Join us in committing Lodi Unified School District to 100% clean renewable electricity by 2030 and all other energy needs by 2040!

To many of us, our schools are like a second home.  Lodi Unified School District provides a range of opportunities for 29,000 students and 3,000 employees (teachers and support staff) in 50 schools in Lodi, Stockton, and surrounding county areas. Our school district is also one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in our communities, negatively impacting the health of our citizens, especially young people, who are showing increasing rates of respiratory illness, due to poor air quality, caused by the burning of fossil fuels, which inevitably leads to poorer learning outcomes.

Together, we can change that.

By making this commitment, our school district would, during the prescribed period, engage energy efficiency audits and projects, (ie. transitioning to LED lighting), undertake the installation of clean renewable energy, (ie. transitioning from fossil fuels to solar), resulting in a 100% clean renewable energy profile in all of our schools! However, without community support, progress toward a renewable energy future will become a much slower process as our schools would continue to emit significant amounts of greenhouse gases each day. This is why we need your support.

By committing Lodi Unified School District to 100% clean renewable energy, we can:

1. IMPROVE OUR HEALTH! As students and residents of the San Joaquin Valley, we suffer from some of the worst air quality in the country. This is largely due to excessive fossil fuel emissions in our communities, our school district being among the largest emitters of GHGs, which trap the pollution inside our basins and mountains. As a result, our region sees some of the highest rates of childhood asthma, pulmonary disease, and heart disease in our residents -- especially those of us living in lower-income areas and communities of color. However, by gradually eliminating our school district's carbon footprint and setting an example for other school districts, we can do our part to change that!

2. IMPROVE OUR SCHOOLS! By using clean renewable energy, the power of the sun, we can slash our school district's energy bills by thousands of dollars each week. As a result, we can reinvest these savings into our students, teachers, classrooms, health, and other needed programs, where it rightfully belongs!

3. IMPROVE OUR LEARNING! By enhancing our indoor air quality, clean renewable energy can allow students to focus more clearly on what we're there to do: Learn and improve our performance in the classroom.  In addition, renewable energy projects on our campus will empower students to have hands-on experience, to think critically -- whether through science, technology, mathematics, engineering, debate, humanities, or more -- about how every one of us can help protect our planet and our community.

For all of these reasons and more, we need you to help commit our school district to 100% clean renewable energy. To make this possible, we need a groundswell of supporters, so we can successfully propose this initiative to the Lodi Unified Board of Education and show how much this matters to all of us in our community.
