Regina Romero, resign; Tucsonans don't need your divisiveness.
Why this petition matters
"Requests from white supremacists have no place on our city's streets."
In this single inflammatory statement posted online, the current mayor and non-Tucson native Regina Romero has abhorrently demonized an entire segment of her constituent population that she was elected to represent; fellow members of our community who wanted to ensure that our local public safety officers knew that in these times of turmoil, they were still appreciated by many for the positive work they do in the community.
In a time when our community needs to come together, numerous forces consistently fuel the divide. Many of our community's public safety officers, who have voluntarily chosen a life of service to protect our local community, a community that many of them have been part of for their entire lives, are unfairly reaping the consequences of unfairly driven backlash that they were not responsible for.
At this critical juncture, instead of local leadership taking a fair, non-partisan approach to allowing fellow Tucsonans, constituents that they were elected to represent and serve, to show their support for the local law enforcement professionals during these trying times, Regina Romero has instead chosen to facilitate a further divide by baselessly slandering them as white supremacists.
This is unacceptable and has no place in our city. Regina Romero, if you cannot fairly represent and serve each and every one of the constituents in our city, our fellow Tucsonans, you have no place in our community's leadership and need to resign from this position of public trust.
